Set of 7 gift cards with wild animals hand painted backgrounds - Day 235 of my 365 day challenge

Set of 7 gift cards with wild animals hand painted backgrounds - Day 235 of my 365 day challenge

Hi Craft addicts!

Today's project for day 235 of my 365 day challenge is a set of 7 mini gift cards using a variety of hand painted backgrounds and various animal dies....

How I made these cards:-

  • There are a mix of various background colours on these cards as I tried to match them to the type of animals (all cut out in black card) used - I wanted to see how various types of cards reacted to colouring directly on to them rather than using a mat & layer - some, as you can see were more successful than others - so moving from top left to the bottom, they were done as follows:
  • Octopus on a bluey purple background is on a white linen effect card and coloured using blues and purples Bleeding Art tissue paper which I placed on a craft mat and added some water to it so the ink came out and then painted the area in the middle (I first of all added a frame to all the cards using a ruler and pencil and then used ICraft's purple tape to secure it down). Once it was dry, I used some more water to dilute the centre of the background making it slightly paler. I then used an alcohol marker to mark the frame - must say I have tried a variety of markers and the one that didn't bleed through to the other side was the Tonic Studios Nuvo Black pen. I then added the Octopus using Midas Touch Sticky Dots as glue.
  • Seahorse - was made in the same way as above, again using the Bleeding Art tissue (this time blues and pinks both separately and blending them to make the purple). I cut out the seahorse (from Tattered Lace) and again used Midas Touch Sticky dots to attach it.
  • Meerkat - was done in the exact same way as the Seahorse and again was a Tattered Lace die.
  • Monkey - Again done in the same way, this time using Distress Oxide inks and was again a Tattered Lace die.
  • Elephant - this was a Tonic Studios die and I again used the Bleeding Arts tissue to create the background - this time Greens and yellows.
  • Turtle/Tortoise - This was again Bleeding Arts tissue - as you can see every background is different so you can never know what it is going to turn out like.
  • Giraffe - this probably is the least successful in my eyes as I was playing with Distress Oxide inks for the first time and hadn't realised that if you added water to the colours before they dry they blend rather than layer! I used greens, reds and yellow and a Tattered Lace Die.

And there you are a set of cards that are fun to make as you never know what the backgrounds are going to end up like.
