Happy Birthday - under the sea theme hand coloured A5 card -
Day 81 of my 365 day challenge
Hi Craft addicts!
I have wanted to try some of the colour wash paints I recently got from both Tattered Angels and the water colour inks from Brea Reese and some Hunkydory For The Love of Stamps for the figures etc.
How I made this project:-
This card is made up of several different components - the first is the sky, the second the divers, submarine stamp images and the last is the water.
The Sky
- I took a piece of white stamping card (which fitted the A5 card) and having added some drops of the Brea Reese Watercolour inks on to a craft mat and swirled it around with some water - the colours I used were blues and purples.
- I then placed the card on top of it and swiped it over the ink several times until I was happy with the effect.
- I also added some more water to dilute some areas and left it to dry over night (or you can use a heat gun but it does tend to warp the card if you do that)
The Divers, Submarine etc
- I stamped the submarine, treasure chest, sea weeds/plants, fishes and divers on to some white stamping card using Versafine Onyx Black ink and embossed them all with Clear embossing powder.
- Once it was cool, I used some of the Blues and Blacks Tattered Angels Colour Wash paints and painted over them. When that was dry, I used a kitchen roll to clean the stamped images.
- I cut them all out leaving a small border around them and tried to see where I wanted them to be on the card.
Underwater
- The card itself has a scalloped edge on the right hand side which allows you to see the inside of the card, so measured 2 lots of acetate to fit the card which also allowed it to stand by itself on its' own when placed landscape.
- I coloured the scallops using a brown alcohol marker to give the impression of sand and then added a narrow line of ultra strong tape just above the scallop and placed the submarine, fishes, treasure chest and one of the divers on it.
- I then added the sea weed on to the first layer of acetate using a PVA Glue.
- I coloured the top layer of acetate with various shades of blue/purple alcohol markers trying to make it look like the sea - once I was happy with the effect I left it to dry. You could used a heat gun but would need to use heat resistant acetate.
- Finally, I added the Happy Birthday self adhesive sentiment (from Kanban) on to some white card, cut round it and then added it to the sky part of the card. I then added the diver to the right hand side attaching it with some foam pads.
And there you are a slightly different card which does take some time but is definitely worth the effort.
