3 simple but fun cards with balloons  -
Day 264 of my 366 day challenge

Hi Craft addicts!

These simple but fun cards have been made right from scratch - that is I have made the cards, cut the aperture out and designed the balloons etc using my Brother ScanNCut and CANVAS.

3 simple but fun cards with balloons

To make these card templates:-

  • I had run out of (or couldn't find any narrow DL cards - 69x184mm) so decided to make my own!
  • I first of all went into CANVAS (Brother ScannCut's web app) and drew a rectangle with those dimensions and duplicated it.
  • I moved them closer together and grouped them together. I then adjusted them so that they were aligned at the bottom.
  • Once I was happy that they were straight, I ungrouped them and moved them 4 spaces each towards each other. When they were overlapping I welded them.
  • I moved them up to the top of the mat and then checked that the rectangle measured 140x184mm- I did this as I wanted to add a scoring line down the middle which I did by using the "Path" line, pressing the "Shift"key down at the same time as drawing the line, double clicking on it when it was 184mm.
  • Whilst it was still chosen, I went into properties and chose the "Cutting line" option and changed the line style to "narrow dashed".
  • Once I was happy with it, I moved it using my direction keys and placed it in the middle of the rectangle making sure that it was at the top and the card base was to the back.
  • I then duplicated it and moved it away.
To make the Balloons and the card:-
  • I wanted to use the "Balloon" stamp you get in the Stamp collection, so selected it and resized it (I duplicated it several time flipping some of them too).
  • For the "Hello" card, I chose the sentiment from the above collection and whilst selected changed it the drawing only option with a dashed line and placed it towards the bottom of the card.
  • I then added three of the balloons to the top half of the card imagining where I would put the ribbon/string and placed them on to the card. (These were set to drawing only)
  • For the middle card, I enlarged the balloons slightly and placed them in a slightly different arrangement, again imagining where I would like the strings. As you can see from this example, You can add a sentiment to the card after it has been cut out.
  • For the 3rd card, I changed the setting of one of the balloons to cutting instead of drawing and placed that at the top.
  • I also grouped the other 2 balloons and slightly overlapped them and chose the "remove the overlapped" option so that it wouldn't draw two lines and then welded them.
  • Once I was happy with where I had placed them (admittedly this was on two mats as you can only fit 2 cards on the 12"x12" mat (but if you can use the 12"x24" mat you could fit all of them. I then transferred them to my Brother ScanNCut and cut them out. I then coloured them using a mix of Twinkling H20s and Cosmic Shimmer Watercolour paints (see below for colours) and some Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers.
  •  I used a thin Pigma micron fineliner pen to add the strings - trying to "ground" them to various parts of the "Hello" and "flower - which I had also cut out using an image from the ScanNCut in black.
  • For aperture card, I glued the blue balloon to the inside of the card placing it in the

aperture to get it into the right place. I then added some "Ripened Pumpkin" Nuvo Crystal drops to the centre of the flower. I also made this 4th card that is made in a similar way....
