Chalkboard MDF pallet 2017 calendar - Day 303 of my 366 day challenge

Chalkboard MDF pallet 2017 calendar -
Day 303 of my 366 day challenge

Hi Craft addicts!

Today's challenge is slightly different in that it is an MDF pallet art wall hanging which I have made into a pretty 2017 calendar.

Chalkboard MDF pallet 2017 calendar

How I made this wall hanging:-

  • The wall hanging itself is made from the Stamps Away "Mini pallet art" kit - I used 6 of the MDF strips and glued them together - to keep the stuck together, I glued two at a time and allowed them to adhere properly.
  • Once that was done, I painted both the front and the back using "White" Pebeo acrylic Gesso paint. I gave it a couple of coats and allowed it to dry in between them.
  • I then added the two additional struts to the back using Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue - this really does strengthen the whole thing and makes it look better too (in my opinion anyway).
  • Using some Collall All Purpose glue I attached the "Floral" background paper which is from the "Mid Summer Mornings" 8" paper pad from Tonic Studios and let it dry. If you are going to used it in a kitchen or somewhere it might be damp, I suggest you use a sealant such as Modge Podge to protect it.
  • I cut out a panel of "Chalkboard" paper (from DoCrafts XCut Xtras self adhesive paper kit) using a "Pin dot rectangles" die from Tattered Lace and placed it towards the top of the panel.
  • I then used a pre-cut die-cut "grey" label and attached it to the lower half of it using thin red liner tape on each side (making sure that the mini-calendar could slide in beforehand).
  • I slid the calendar in (for my next one, I think I will add a cover for it) and finally, using a hot glue gun, added the pink/orange rose to the bottom right hand corner and die cut flower to the left.
  • I also added some twine (wired) doubled up to make a "cord" for it attaching it to the back of the wall hanging again using a hot glue gun.

And there you are - a pretty wall hanging with a chalkboard inset and a 2017 calendar (which can be replaced) using Tonic Studios background papers and some chalkboard paper.
