Flights of Fantasy Fairy MDF tag

Flights of Fantasy Fairy MDF tag

Hi Craft Addicts!

As mentioned in my last post, I have been experimenting with various ways of using MDF and started out with a couple of smaller ones which I showed last time and slightly better ones (see below for ones made using Graphic 45 papers and my own abstract flowers)

From the smaller ones, I moved on to the Fairy one below which turned out well I think!

I first of all used the Pebeo Studio Acrylic black gesso and painted the MDF (it measures approx 19x13cm) a couple of times - I used a brush but the next time I think I will used a Brayer to give it a uniform cover.

Whilst this dried (and it is really quick), I cut out the beautiful image of the red haired fairy from the "Flights of Fantasy" paper crafting kit which Crafter's Companion brought out recently. The artwork from this kit has been painted by Morgan Fitzsimmons and is is really stunning - I am going to make a matching card and gift tag to go with this and will post a blog about it soon.

I then glued it to the MDF using Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue and allowed it to dry. Once dry, I then added some paper flowers to the left hand side - these were already made but you could use flowers you have made yourself of course. I then coloured 2 wooden leaves using Spectrum Noir alcohol markers (2 shades of green) and glued them behind the flowers.

I then also used a white Graph-it marker to add some edging to the right hand side and then added some Apple Green Nuvo drops to add another dimension to it. I also placed a few white and yellow drops to the leaves and flowers. I also used the Tonic Studios large Nuvo glue pen to add some glue to the folds of her clothes and then added some of the Glitter Lilac glitter to them - looking back I think I would probably have used a finer line of glue so it wasn't quite so "in your face" but still...

Once all this was dry, I wanted to give the image some protection so I used some Matte Modge Podge all over it with a sponge brush - again looking back I probably would have done this right from the beginning.

And there you are one stylish MDF project that I think would make a lovely present.

Some other ideas:
  • Add some blackboard paper or paint to it and make it a noticeboard
  • Use some ribbon or cord and make it a wall decoration
  • Add a small MDF block to the reverse to make it a free standing decoration

You can buy this and other items on my new website here
